Most luxury yachts are used for only a few weeks a year. Sadly, they lie idly at a marina berth or mooring for much of their lives. The owner’s capital is tied up whilst the costs of ownership continue relentlessly; Marina fees, insurance, maintenance, replacement of equipment, cleaning, interest and repayments. This can amount to thousands of dollars per month for a luxury yacht.

Also, managing a boat is very time consuming. Organising slipways, painting, repairs, tradesmen, engine and safety checks – the chores are endless. Yacht syndicate ownership is the smart choice as it offers all the pleasures of a sailing lifestyle without the huge investment at the beginning or the high running costs and constant hassles over the years.

HOW IT WORKS

Why part-ownership instead of owning the whole yacht?

Economical and easy Yacht Ownership
A yacht is quite an expensive piece of lifestyle equipment. A comfortable, easy to handle 35 foot yacht with enough accommodation for the whole family would typically cost approximately A$300,000. To calculate the true cost of ownership you must include the initial capital investment, plus the opportunity cost if paying in cash, or interest paid if the boat is financed. (Opportunity cost is the amount of interest you would have received if you invested the money instead of buying a yacht.) With Sydney By Sail syndicated ownership, the capital required for all the benefits of owning a 35 foot luxury yacht is as low as A$27,500 per 10% share.

Cost-effective boat ownership
As a part-owner, you will only pay your fixed amount of annual maintenance that includes all costs associated with yacht ownership. For example, our Salona 35 or Hunter 36 would attract an all-inclusive maintenance contribution of only $5,520 per year (incl. GST). Our yacht owners own their yacht, and at the same time saving approximately 90% of the normal costs that come with yacht ownership – and still use the yacht a generous 33 days per year as a minimum. If the yacht is available then any owner can use it on a stand by basis. Most people don’t use the yacht this many days even if they own 100%.

How many days are allocated to each owner and how do I book in?
Each owner of a share in a yacht is entitled to a certain minimum number of days usage of the boat per year. For example
10% share = minimum 33 days per year
20% share = minimum 66 days per year

Additional days are available on a stand by basis

Owners can book their days up to four months in advance and still have complete flexibility:
Bookings can be changed (i.e. in bad weather situations) without penalty or limitations. Bookings are made conveniently over the internet at any time of day. Each day you booking is guaranteed for you, and your yacht will be ready for pickup at 9am. Overnight usage is possible if two or more consecutive days are booked. You can book single days or extended holiday periods. Standby days are also available for weekday and weekend bookings.

Sydney By Sail will take care of all yacht maintenance and arrangements.
Yacht ownership not only costs money. It can also mean spending more time maintaining and repairing the yacht than enjoying the sailing. It is never ending, but a yacht that is not well maintained will depreciate even faster than necessary. The syndicated yachts are professionally maintained throughout the ownership period, with focus on detail and value conservation. This service is perfectly suited for our busy lifestyles, where most people are time poor but still want the sailing lifestyle without the commitment. Sydney by Sail takes care of all the operational aspects involved in yacht ownership, resulting in an all-inclusive walk-on, walk-off sailing experience.

What happens when the yacht is sold?
When the yacht is sold, the owners share in the net proceeds. You will only have paid for the true depreciation of your yacht, and our stringent management program will ensure that each syndicated yacht retains the maximum resale value. Our boats will typically depreciate by about 30% within a three year ownership period.

SYNDICATED YACHT OWNERSHIP – YACHT INFORMATION

New model – SALONA 35

Our next yacht syndication is for a brand new Salona 35 Performance Cruiser. The Salona 35 is a luxury performance cruising yacht with a great turn of speed, and is simple to sail. The cockpit has twin wheels, plenty of seating, easy access to control lines and winches and great visibility. Inside, the yacht is beautifully finished with teak throughout, large cabins, a well laid out salon and galley.

We have chosen the Salona 35 due to that fact that it is luxurious with all the comforts necessary for a relaxing day on the water, yet has that extra speed. Salona Yachts are made in Croatia by AD Boats, part of the Prevent Group – a German multinational that employs 12,000 people in more than 38 production facilities worldwide. The Prevent Group is a major supplier to the car industry with clients including Audi, Volkswagen and Porsche.

Through our Yacht Syndication program you can buy a share in this magnificent yacht and then enjoy fully serviced, walk-on, walk-0ff sailing. We offer 10% shares, which includes a minimum of 33 days maintenance free sailing a year. The yacht will be berthed in Darling Harbour in a secure easily accessible marina and managed by Sydney By Sail.  The next syndicate commences in summer 2012 with the capital cost of a 10% share $27,500. The annual fee is only $5520, which includes all insurance, registration, berthing fees, maintenance and fuel usage.
